I want to become a paralegal in the u.s (GA), I have a British law degree but cannot practice in GA.

I have seen many paralegal certificates that can be earned for law degree holders but should I attend an ABA approved school or will any good technical college do?

I am a paralegal in Texas. I would most definitely recommend that you attend an ABA approved school if you have one in the area. You can find a list on their website. The reason being, you hold a law degree that pretty much means nothing here. I tried to find a more tactful way of saying it, but the truth is, I am sure what you learned is different from the law that is practiced in the US. My reasoning is if you depend on some online certificate or some no-name school, you risk being unemployable and all that hard work was for nothing. If you attend an ABA program, you can at least ensure you received some kind of monitored program with standards in addition to your British law degree.

In the end, it really depends on the market and what the hiring attorney/partner is looking for. You might be able to walk into a law office right now and someone hire you. No one can predict what the conditions are. I just suggest that you attend a credible program that will teach you what you need to know to become a successful paralegal, because from what I understand, British paralegals have different tasks than US paralegals. You might find it wasn't what you were expecting. Good luck!
