Does anyone do Law at A-Level?

Category: Law & Legal

I have just chosen my A-Levels and have chosen Law for one of them. You only required a B at English Language but I got a A. Even though I got this really high grade people keep telling me its too hard and many people dropped it because they didn't like it. I am really interested in the Legal System and find it fascinating. What grade did you get a A-Level if you did it and did you like it? If you dropped it why? I need to know what i'm letting my self in for so I can change my course quite early on if I dont like it? x

I did law at A level and i really enjoyed it. It is hard work but i found it really interesting (which i why i am pursuing a career as a solicitor).

Its difficult due to legal concepts and remembering cases/statues. As long as you take he time to read the about the subject and the concepts then it is not as bad. I would suggest getting an "AS-A level law" text book. (Also, if you do like law and continue it then keep the AS-A level text book - you will go over the concepts again at degree level and having a book which sets out the basics in a straight forward way is fantastic!)

Cases can be difficult to remember as you have to remember as case and the point it made. However, i always found relating the case to something i could easily remember made it easier (i.e. the case of Fisher V Bell i remembered as a "fisher fighting a bell" (the case is about knifes and invitations to treat)). Once i could remember the name i found i could normally remember the point of the case and the image of a fisherman fighting a bell made me laugh....

Anyways back on point: Law can be difficult but i would say give it a go. If you don't like it you can drop it, but if you like it then it can be interesting and enjoyable. To know about different legislation and laws and how they work is very nice (i.e. how the unfair contract terms act and sale of goods act works when buying or selling is useful).

Also i got a A at a-level (which shocked me!)

I haven't done Law but I have so many friends who just completed their A Level Law course. They say it is definitely a lot of work - there are lots of case studies to memorize and you have to be able to write a lot in a short span of time. However most of them have enjoyed the course. I think you should do it if you are interested in it, you'll most likely do well in something you want to learn about. As for grades, ppl I know have gotten Bs and As for AS. Not sure for A2 as they've just done their exams. Good luck with deciding. :)
