Can you be a lawyer and an architect?

Category: Law & Legal

Is it possible to have both jobs (like switch back and forth) if you've finished all your universities, diplomas, and if you're a real hard worker?

Or do they only let you have one job in the U.S.?

Lawyers can work a few cases each month, and architect one or two blueprints per month? Is it possible to do both requirements or is that illegal?

Sure but from a practical standpoint, it doesn't make a lot of sense. If you are working on a design project, it's likely that it would take all your time. Likewise, a lawsuit would take all your time. You would run into all sorts of scheduling problems. You wouldn't be able to take on a new design project till the court case was over and vise versa. You'd end up with a lot of down time in between.

Not to mention the huge differences in the skills and knowledge required for each. You would likely do poorly at both. That would be a lot of very expensive education gone to waste.

There's no law against working whatever jobs you want. You can have a solo law practice that is part time and a solo architecture practice that is also part time.Or you might find firms willing to hire part time people, however realize the you probably won't get benefits from either place.

From what I understand, building something can be very consuming while it is going on, unless you turn the project over to someone to execute after you design it.

Law has a variety of options and you can easily do that part time. I did that when my kids were little. Most lawyers don't do litigation, so the idea that you have to set everything aside for a case is only something some attorneys have to do.
