On Monday after 4.5 hrs work I was allowed to go home as I had temperature and had breathing problems. On Tuesday morning I called in sick at work but failed to call in sick on wed-frid. However my manager called me on Friday asking if I will ome on Monday. Next week (on Monday) on my return I was handed in letter inviting me for disciplinary meeting to iscuss my abenteeism. Can they realyy lawfully do that?

YES they can do that,

really lawfully.....

they could fire you for "no call no show" or "excessive absenteeism"....

it is nice of the employer to make an effort to make sure you understand their policies on absenteeism.... they are giving you a another chance and you wonder more about the legality then what YOU did wrong.

Of course. You were a no-call no-show for 3 days. Most employers would and can fire you for it.

Yes, unless you were hospitalized and unable to use the phone.Your employer will probably ask for documentation. Other than that the employer could fire you for no call no show 3 days in a row.

If you are in the UK then return to work interviews are fairly standard practice. If your employer has concerns about your overall attendance record then they can and will deal with it more formally and a disciplinary hearing would need to be set up. In this case, failing to call in for three days would be an issue for most employers as you have effectively broken your contract. However, you do have the right to be accompanied to the hearing and to hear any evidence against you as well being given the opportunity to put your side.

Good luck

Yes they can do that because you were no call and no show unless you have prof as to why you were out. the best thing to do is to talk to your boss and try to make him/her understand

Depending on where you live, most states are an at will employer, so they don't need a reason to fire you. This could be their best defense if they decided to do that. Because if you were to fight any disciplinary action, they would use your tardiness against you. For future references always call in and talk to your supervisor with any problems reporting to work each and every day. There is nothing worse than an employee that no shows or no calls. A slow worker that is responsible is considered a better employee.
