Can employer make me take all of my vacation time at once?

I am working in Virginia at a small family restaurant. I'm allowed two days off per week. For an upcoming wedding I was hoping to take an extra day off and use one of my vacation days. Now my boss comes back and says that I cannot have the three days off because I have to use all of my vacation at once, it can't be split up. This is after he has already split up ALL his vacation days he had for the year. I mentioned to him how he had split up his days and he says "this is a new policy from the owner". Well I never talk to or see the owner but I'm pretty sure this was not his rule, I'm pretty sure my boss just doesn't want to work any extra days. I believe there should be some sort of law that states you employer cannot tell you how to use your alloted vacation time, but I may be wrong. Can anyone give me a definite answer on this with some proof to back it up so I can show my boss. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks

Since paid vacation is neither required or regulated they can do that. There is no law on the issue. |

If you're in the US, there isn't a law that even says they have to GIVE you any vacation days. If they do give them to you, the employer can determine when you can and can't take them, or how you can take them. Your beliving that there SHOULD be a law letting you take your vacation how and when you want to doesn't mean there IS such a law. There isn't. |
