Whats a better career to start off with in the medical field? a paramedic or a x-ray technologist?

I would like to keep moving forward in the medical field and maybe someday become a physician. Or even if there are a better career choice to start with besides these. And can i work as one of these careers while i keep going to college?

If you want to be a physician, you go to medical school. Paramedic & radiologic technologist aren't going to help you with experience-these people do not diagnose. In the most basic terms: paramedics handle crises when a doctor (or even nurse) isn't around & radiologic technologists take pictures. You are not diagnosing the medical problem. You also cannot work as one of these through med school, you'll be too busy, trust me or go talk to med students & ask about their free time. Good luck!

I used to work with a doctor who started out as a paramedic.

I'd say being a paramedic is a good start. You will gain much experience that you will use later when you decide to move up in the medical field. My brother was a paramedic for years, then went on to get his RN. He did very well, and found it to be easy due to his prior medical knowledge. Xray tech will make more money, but it will take more schooling. As a paramedic you will deal with a wider variety of patients, thus giving you a more colorful medical background. You can certainly work in either field while you continue your education. The poster above me doesn't know what he is talking about. I worked at a residency program, and most, if not all of the residents did 'moonlighting' work. It will be hard, but it's doable. My dad is a doctor, he also worked while going to med school, as a pharmacist.

As you want to become physician, it is better to go for paramedic. You can also think about medical transcription also, MT also gives you very good exposure almost like a physician you will have very good exposure.
