What do I do in this situation?

I work at a hospital and have been there for 5 months. When I first started I told my manager (whom is no longer there) that I was getting married in September and I had several weddings in the summer to attend too. She was ok with it and I wrote all of my days off that I needed. Well after my manager left, things have changed. The days off that I needed were not given to me. my new supervisor has stated that I put in the request too late for the days off that I needed. I have had several issues now where I need a certain day off and I have already been put on the schedule to work that day. I have asked people to switch with me in hopes to get the day off because of wedding stuff.

Example: I am currently in Pre Cana and I needed this Sat off, I requested it off, but I was told I put in the request too late (a month ago I asked for this). So now I need to find someone to work for me. I found someone to work from 7am to 5pm, but I was told since that person is not covering my entire shift, I need to find someone else to cover the last two hours of my shift, otherwise I will be penalized for not coming in. I explained that I cannot miss this last pre cana class on Sat due to the fact the priest is going over how everything is setup at church and it is manadatory to attend mass at the end (the class goes from 1-6pm). I talked to the supervisor about this and she said there is nothing she can do and if I want to stay with the company I need to find someone to work for me. I have called everyone that works on my floor and they cannot come in. I have even tried other floors to see if they are willing to work.

What do I do in this situation seeing as I cannot miss church but at the same time do not want to lose my job over this. Should I go to HR and explain the situation? What would you do?

You could try telling HR that you feel you are being discriminated agains because of your religion but I doubt that would help. Your employer has every right to put you on the schedule and not showing up would give the means to fire you. It's unfortunate that the new supervisor can't work around your schedule but since they are new they are probably wondering how they are going to make things work with someone who is constantly taking time off to attend to personal matters.

Yes.If your immediate boss is obdurate ,share your problems with your co workers and convey them that you are not unreasonable, but your boss is somewhat dashy regarding you.If your co workers can not reconcile with your boss,go to his superior with you pleads.

Unfortunately your new supervisor has power play issues and is a complete idiot and should never even have gotten a position to supervise employees because she is doing a rotten job.

Yes, I would go to HR and tell them that you already put in for time off on this particular date well in advance and attempted to do so again a month ago so you expected to have this important date off.

Let them know that you could cover all but two hours of your shift and that you would be willing to work anyone's shift if you could be covered on this particular Saturday. This way you are showing that you are willing to make the time up and compromise.

I once had a supervisor who was a real witch. She did everything in her power to get me fired, including changing the schedule without my knowledge or the proper advance notice. SHE was finally fired!!

Yes, go over her head. Your job is in jeopardy for no real reason other than a power hungry woman who is heartless and has a complete lack of skills to do her job.
