What are the legal obligations for a care provider carrying out a care plan and risk assessment on a child?

The child is 5 years old with autism and behavioural difficulties. We are intending to visit the home of the child, and complete the paperwork with the child's mother, but the child will not be present. Is it a legal obligation that we have met the child to complete the care plan? I know it is for an adult, but is it the same for a child, as all the answers regarding the care plan etc will be coming from the parent?

Depending on the severity of the childs difficulties and autism it is probably better to fill the paperwork in while without the child there so she can give you her full attention to make sure she gives you all the facts. If the child is there this couldd destract her and you may not get a full picture of the childs needs. Another home isit could be arranged to meet the child. Are you just training or do you already work with kids? If your a childminder your registration officer should be able to help you out with what you should and shouldnt do. dont want to be rude but t the end of the day yull be responsible for someone elses child and if you dont know the lgalitys of a home visit then you shouldntbe doing it. on your own anyway.
