Salary depends on where you live and where you work. Most of the time you would have to start out in a nursing home starting anywhere from $9 to $12 an hour. At a Hospital you might get a couple of dollars more. The duties of a CNA are to assist residents and patients with activities of daily living, such as bathing, feeding, mouth care, toileting, and those kind of things.

My normal day is getting to work. Helping about 9 residents get out of bed, to the bath room, get washed dressed & ready to eat breakfast. About 3 showers a day. Some walk some I need to use 2 aides & a lift. Some I use my muscle to life them ( kiss you back good bye)

We have to plate & serve breakfast same with lunch. In between breakfast & lunch we take residents to the bathroom 210 times. ( lol I'm not joking either) Also get them ready for doctors appointments, & physical therapy appointments.

I work in a skilled unit. To be honest that is the way to go yes my job is very hard every day. But if you aren't certified working in an Assisted living or personal care home is a ton worse. Some times they have over 15-20+ full cares. Where they do every thing EVERYTHING for that person.

I started out at $10.40 an hour now after being certified for 3 almost 4 years I make $12.60. I know other places in my area make $9.25 as a CNA. Really call around to the hospitals & nursing homes to see what you will make before making the commitment. Some places are really horrible to resident & staff.

I also would make sure your ok with wiping butts! Because as a CNA that is what you do! I have seen some horrible s*it messes that I had to clean up. Plus there are so many old people that just chose to do nothing for them selves

I do love my job 70% of the time. Some times its like having 10 extra grandmas or grandpas. I have a few resident that remember my birthday. They always have my favorite candy. Their families are like my own now. It sounds silly but its nice being appreciated.
