What's the deal with CNA jobs, I thought being a CNA was recession proof?

I've been in an on-call CNA position for 6 months. This is all I can find. I am even certified to give medications in my state. Any other CNAs having a hard time finding a job? It used to be employers were begging for CNA's. I'm in Colorado.

In a down turn as deep as this one there is no such thing as a 'recession proof' job.

Pick up a history book and read about the 1930's. It was way worse than now....

I know rite. Now they are asking for LPN's. I guess because they have a little more experience and the LPN can do the CNA work also.

They are probably taking in foreign CNA's. I thought everyone was a CNA though, except me. But be confident. Keep looking. CNA jobs are in huge demand. You could be a school nurse, prison nurse, hospital nurse or doctors aide. Be creative.

You are most likely having trouble getting a permanent position because employers want experience. Keep working on-call and eventually something will open up.

I don't know where you live. I'm in CA and so if you are here and you have the time right now you may wish to train as a home health aide. This is a step up from a CNA and the demand is going to continue to increase as the baby boomers continue to age. Just know, of course, that employers want experience. However, you might be able to get a private CNA/home health aide job. Check out craigslist.

I really think you struggle has more to do with lack of experience than the economy.
