Traveling nurse pros and cons? Requirements?
I'm 16 and I'm super excited about becoming a traveling nurse. I think I want to specialize in pediatrics. Does anyone know the salary, pros, and cons? Also, what do you have to go through to become one? What do you do on the job on a day-to-day basis?

My aunt has some traveling nursing the past few years, so I know second-hand. All the jobs she's taken, the hospital has paid for her to stay in a little apartment (some are nice, some are not the best). I think if they put you up in a spot you don't like, you can ask for a "living allowance," and stay at another place. I knew this couple who were both traveling nurses and they bought a RV. They pay you pretty well, sometimes more than a local nurse, sometimes it will end up being the same as a local nurse. |

You need to get your RN first as well as a few years experience; you will not have the opportunity to be learning anything on the job. Specializing solely in peds would severely limit you as that is a small niche. Your duties are the same as any of the other nurses in the area, although you often get the less desirable shifts. YOu are also there to work, not sight see, so there are a certain required number of shifts. For now, however, concentrate on getting into a nursing program once you are through high school. |

Nurses are fantastic, so many of them give up so much, only so that they can look after for other peeps. In the box below is a resource I discovered with loads of things about nursing - and loads of alternative professions too. |
