Should I become a Registered Nurse or an Occupational Therapist... pros and cons please?

I am 26 and I have most of the pre requisites done which are basically the same for both programs...what should i do

HE

Nursing

PROS:

-Flexible working hours: day, evening, and night shifts, full time, part time, per diem, overtime, etc.

-Jobs everywhere: you can work on any floor of the hospital, outpatient centers, clinics, surgical centers, schools, etc.

-Growth opportunities: you can go into management, specialize in a particular area and get a masters, etc.

CONS:

-In some areas, it's difficult just getting into a nursing school.

-Might be difficult getting a job w/out previous health care experience once you graduate

Occupational Therapist

PROS:

-You are specialized (ha, opposite of nursing): you work on a particular aspect of a patient, where as the nurse works on the "whole"

-You can work in many different places: hospitals, outpatient centers, schools, etc.

CONS:

-Once you reach OT status, there's not much growth-you're at highest potential

Honestly, I know more about nursing than OT, so I'm a little biased. You should try shadowing both professionals that way you'd know which one's right for you. Good luck!
