Physician Assistant or Doctor?
Im currently a junior in high school, and I'm thinking about different career fields. My parents want me to become a doctor, although I think that it takes too long. Someone suggested that i become a physician's assistant, and then continue my education to become a doctor. Is that possible? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey i'm a PA student.... You dont become a physician assistant to then continue to become a doc... PA school is an abreviated medical school so it is very busy... Trust me many would hate to go back and sit in 4 years of lectures in things they have already been taught after getting there masters as a PA. Financially its doesnt work out... Figure if you become a PA you will make 90-100 coming out... 4 years of medical school will increase your debt and your potential earnings wont be there. Financially you wont make it back for a long time... There are some who can work while in medical school s a PA usually the first year or 2. |

Becoming a physician assistant only takes 1-2 years less than becoming a doctor. You can "continue" your education to go from being a PA to an MD, however, the fact that you are a PA will not make your medical schooling any shorter, though it will probably be easier for you. You could use the bachelor's degree you earned before going to PA school in order to get into medical school. Being a PA may also help you with being admitted to medical school, but, once admitted, medical school will still take you 4 years to complete just as it does everyone else. |
