Medical School in another country?

Okay so My dad is a doctor in Ecuador and works at a very prestigious Hospital/University, (Universidad Del Azuay). I moved to the US and have lived here for 10 years and just got my permanent residency like 6 months ago, I was thinking about going back to Ecuador where my dad is and do all 7 years of med school down there, because it is a lot cheaper in Dollars over there, How well would my credits transfer back here? I am a Permanent Resident here in the US so I understand that is one requirement of practicing medicine here. Would I be able to come back as a doctor here? and what would I have to do to be licensed here in US?

If you study medicine and graduate in foreign country, you will be considered as Foreign Medical Graduate (FMG), you come here to U.S. and take the USMLEs. After passing that, you can apply for a residency here. You don't have to be a permanent resident or U.S. Citizen, though it would be advantageous for you since not all residency programs will sponsor visa. After residency, you take the boards depending on the specialty you choose then you can practice medicine here in U.S. |
