LPN's & Medical Assistants please answer?

I am going back to school. I had every intention of entering the LPN program but the school is pushing super hard for me to enter the medical assisting course.

Reasons they cite are:

Better hours

Better pay in the long run

Degree vs License

They say LPN's can only get jobs in nursing homes whereas MA's are replacing the LPN's in the hospitals, and they only hire MA's in clinics and offices.

Is this the case? What is your occupation? How hard was it to find a job and what was your starting pay?

Thanks

Im mad someone told you that. SMH. So wrong.

I am a nursing student and my grandmother has been a nurse for 40 years and is now an instructor. My aunt went to school to be an MA but it wasnt a degree program, it was a certification. LPN has certification program as well. You would get paid more with LPN certification because LPN are basically nurses. They can set up IV's, give meds etc. MA does the same thing as a CNA except they can draw blood.

I say go to school for LPN and bridge into RN, you would only have a year to go after getting your LPN.

I was told LPN make more then medical assistants. I would stick with becoming a LPN

I just graduated as a Medical Assistant with my associate of science degree and have had 3 interviews and haven't got hired yet. I can't get a job though because their always looking for bilingual which I can't speak Spanish at all!! Also, where externed at, the Starting pay was $9.00. My advice for you is look into becoming a CNA then an LVN because once your an LVN you can do the bridge program to become an RN and it's totally worth every penny you spent. :) really look into everything before signing a contract. I wish I had someone to tell me to look over everything :) good luck!!

Go for LPN. There is no way that MAs will ever replace LPNs, and the VA Hospital system and Kaiser hires LPNs.

Besides, if you truly had to stick it out in a nursing home until you could get the job you wanted, it wouldn't be the end of the world.
