Yes, it would! In fact, it's probably not a legitimate school.

Like the previous posts have advised...make sure it's an NLN accredited program and the reputable hospitals in your area actually hire nurses that have graduated from that program. If the school tells you it's NLN-accredited, you actually follow up and make sure it is:

http://www.nlnac.org/home.htm

(just being in the "candidate" phase of accredidation doesn't cut it....it can take almost a decade for accredidation!!!))

Most "for-profit" schools are not respected (Kaplan, MedTech, U of Phoenix, etc)...they are simply as business posing as an educational institute that exists to take your money and leave you with basically a diploma from a "diploma mill school".

Call around to local hospitals (Human Resource Dept or Nurse Recruiter) and see if they actually have any RN's that obtained their degree from that institute.

I've read a few responses on here from people that have said HR people have been instructed by their superiors to throw out any resumes from people that have listed U of Phoenix as a school.....that's something to keep in mind!!

Remember the old phrase...."if it sounds too good to be true.....", nothing could be more accurate when it comes to online nursing programs!!!

My advice to you would be start taking classes at a community college. Many pre-reqs for nursing can be done online, but actual nursing classes cannot! If your courses cost more than the average state university's cost per credit hour, you need to check into another school!

You need to make sure that the school is actually accredited in your state. If it isn't, then the degree is worth nothing. In addition, nursing requires a practicum. Where will you be placed for these hours? Are you on your own? Do hospitals and other health care facilities in your area actually allow placement to students from that school?

Like technology, nursing requires hands on work and observance. I do agree with the other poster, that your school should be accredited by the state.

You cannot become a nurse online.Nursing involves hands on skills. You have to attend classes and participate in skills labs and work in clinical settings to gain practical experience. You need to practice on real people. You cannot do it online.

As I know, this site has top listing of such college courses online - schools.iblogger.org

You have to have clinical rotations. You have to have supervised hands-on care of real people. There is no escaping that. Would you want to be given an injection by a nurse who has never given one before? I think not.
