I want to be a nurse. i currently took a class to be a cna but i havent taken the test yet. well basically this is it im about to be 18 and i am getting kicked out on my 18 birthday me and my mom/stepdad dont get along. i was thinking about joining the military and being a nurse there that way i would have somewhere to live too. or should i just request more hours at work and buy an apartment and go to school to be a RN(registered nurse) and do that. but i dont think i can afford that?

It's going to be hard either way.

Have you ever thought of Job Corp? They give you a place to live, food, living money, and education.

As far as working, paying bills, AND going to RN school... that will be SUPER hard. But if you are willing to work and have basically no life you could do that.

Think long and hard about the military. It's not a bad choice but it is a very personal one.

I'm 20. I was kicked out at 17 because my parents couldn't afford me. I got my CNA license and worked at that for a while and did some other jobs on the side. I'm in debt up to my neck from just trying to make it. I really wish I would have went with job corp.

Lucky for me, I met my wonderful husband and he is supporting me to go back to school for RN. I KNOW I could not work and go to RN school at the same time.

Good luck to you. Just be sure to try to really think about how the cost of living is now and figure out what kind of life style you want. :)

Also, look into doing a FASFA to pay for college. You can get a grant you don't have to pay back. You might can even get enough to pay for a dorm.

1st big problem: you're talking about not being able to afford stuff, but you mention buying a place? nuh uh. if you want to go to school, consider renting a room. it is cheap and affordable.

if you do go that route, many programs recommend you not work much while in school due to the stress. you may need to look into a part time program.

for the military, you're going to be stuck doing grunt work if you join immediately after high school. some people love it, some people think it's a hell hole. I would try researching online and speaking with a recruiter to see if it is for you.

What you can do is go to a community college. Since you are under 24, they would have to go off your parents income. Enroll before your 18th birthday. You will get financial aid and pell grant. Community college is cheaper so you will get a refund check every quarter which will be about $1500-2000. You can use that for your bills. Also as far as nursing school, you will have to take your pre reqs first which are a year. Then after that enroll in nursing school.

If you are a good candidate for ROTC do it. They offer you money to go to college it might be a little late this year though because I think they only have programs at larger universities. Try to enroll in a community college and take some core classes unfortunately if you have not filled FASFA you wont get any government money but you could get loans oh and my advise rent not buy try to get a roommate it will make it cheaper. And if you are truly interested in the military talk to a recruiter

here's a website that might help you http://www.goarmy.com/rotc/high_school_s¦
