You go to Dental school to be a dentist. You will need an undergrad degree (3-4 years) and dental school is 4 years. To be an orthodontist or something, it will be more time. General Dentist total=7-8 years

You go to Hygienist school to be a DH. Hygienist school itself is 2 years, prerequisites may take 1-2 years. Dental Hygienist total=3-4 years

To find accredited programs for either, go to www.ada.org

You gotta go to Med School, so at least 7 years. 4 years of regular college than your doctorate. Most get through in 8 or 9 years though.

It depends where you are training and the length of training does vary from country to country.

In the UK for example it can take up to 7-8 years plus you have to continuously add to your training. You may find this website useful: http://www.nhscareers.nhs.uk/details/Default.aspx?Id=610

You can find dental training USA info here http://www.healthguideusa.org/careers/dentist_training.htm

Remeber not to base your decision on length of training, consider and explore if you have the minimum academic grades to pursue this. Think about funding as medical training isn't cheap and also consider future job opportunities.
