I made a claim by phone last week for ESA and have just sent my doctors sicknote off, i know theres alot they need to look through and probably assessments i have to do but when do the payments start i was on jsa and cancelled that claim for ESA, will they back date the money from when i first claimed, just a little bit hard living with no money at the moment and not sure when the first payment will be, oh and not a scrounger 19 and have slipped disc in lower and upper back also degenerative disc disease, any help thanks

Your JSA should remain in force until the day before your ESA begins. Not sure why you'd be living with no money at the moment

I would give them a call and find out.

I believe your JSA will stop in effect from the day you cancelled. Your claim for ESA will have to be assessed to look at your entitlement. If granted you should be backdated from the day you claimed. Unfortunately you will not receive payment until then.

Meanwhile you should be able to claim for a crisis payment on a weekly basis until then. Good luck
