Can you get a job in a vet clinic without having to have been through some certification?

Im 18 and Ill be going to school in the fall for animal sciences, eventually ill go to vet school but i was hoping that until then I could work at a clinic. I know there are positions as Vet techs but I always thought you had to go through classes for that

Depends on the clinic. A lot of clinics will train you on the job, although you might get paid more if you are a certified vet tech. If you are just working for experience prior to vet school the money might not be so important, so it's really up to you. A lot of vets will also do all they can to help a future vet student because they know how important it is to have vet experience when trying to get into vet school. I'd say go to some clinics, tell them what your academic plans are and I bet someone will hire you :-) It worked for me! I even took a job as a receptionist at a clinic and surprisingly learned a ton. Good luck to you! |

You won't get a job as a vet tech without a degree. But, you could definitely get a job as an assistant, receptionist or in the kennel. If you do want to go to vet school, then do not try to go to tech school first just to be able to work as one for the experience. It's not worth it. |
