Can I have Psychology classes in BS Nursing?

Hello! I'm 16 years old and am about to go to college. I really love Psychology, it really intrigues me. But my mom bugs me to just go for BS Nursing because it has a higher pay. So I was thinking about going for BS Nursing but having extra Psychology classes. Is that possible? Or should I just go for BS Psychology (because that's what I really want), but can I become a nurse or something even though I didn't major in nursing? Or should I just double major, but is that even possible? Or wait, should I just go for nursing then have a masteral in Psych??

Please answer seriously. It would be highly appreciated thanks.

I think if you're interested in psychology, pursue it. If you wanted to treat patients, you could get a Ph.D. in psychology or a Master's in psychiatric social work. Nursing school requires a lot of dedication and if you don't have a passion for nursing, you will probably not like it. BSN programs are demanding and there won't be a lot of room for psych electives. If you go on to become a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, you will be able to prescribe medication which psychologists can't do. It all depends on what you see yourself doing in the future, but in my experience people who go into nursing for the money turn out to be bad nurses. Good luck.

All BSN programs require some psychology. You probably can take an extra psychology course or two as electives but I don't think too many good nursing programs will accommodate a double major; the time commitment to the nursing courses is too long.

A BS in psychology is OK as long as you plan to pursue a Psy.D. or Ph.D. Those are the actual practice degrees; not a BS or BA. A BA or BS in psych is like a degree in history or English: general learning and not applied practice. I'm a great believer in liberal arts learning but, students must realize it is not occupational preparation.

Psych nurses are advance practice nurses with a MSN or DNP or Ph.D.

Don't decide to pursue nursing as an occupation if you don't want to do it. There are too many nursing students new grads who are pushed into nursing who really don't want it. It shows in school and in their work.
