Bachelor degree in Nursing student to Physician Assistance with no healthcare experience?

Category: Health Care

I'm working on getting a 4 year bachelor degree in nursing and then getting my masters to become a physician assistance from an accredited school which takes 2 years. Do you think upon applying to this program you might need to have some health care experience or can you go straight from being a student with a BSN to a physician assistant?

Schooling for Nursing is not reality. You need to have real world experience in dealing w/ patients, making decisions on care and experiencing a lot as a Nurse to make you competent to move forward. You need to deal with Dr and others as they work to understand the dynamics of personality.

Theory is fine, it does not take care of patients or make you good at Diagnosing or treating. You need to learn about care of ppl, not just spouting a book.

The option would be to consider getting a job as an Rn in a Hospital--if they are hiring when you graduate and start working as you are going to school since you will get the experience and training and when you get out have the experience you will need. You do not have to do a fulltime workload--work a Baylor or something of a few shifts and then have time for school.

If you stay in school the entire time and do no real world work, you will not be in the real world to deal with it, you will be in culture shock and be at a loss--not what one needs to do when dealing w/ patients as a Dr will not have the time or luxury to train you when you go to work if you would even be considered as a candidate. Fresh grads are not always the best candidates.

Best wishes in school--good plan to make more of the degree than just an RN for the coming changes. We will need many more professionals to make up the slack of available Doctors .

Up to the specific program, but most require experience. Being in school usually does not count as experience because you are so closely supervised & really not managing anything autonomously. I would plan on having to work as a RN for 1-2 years--you will do better anyway.
