What are good government paying jobs?

Category: Goverment & Non-Profit

I am about to start college and was wondering what would be a good paying government job to have? I was thinking about getting my basics out of the way first but then I need to know what to take next. I heard having a government job is a great thing to have. My friends mom has one and makes 200K a year with great benefits. So any advice or web pages of government jobs would be great. Thank You.

Hunting for a job is tricky, especially if it's ages since you last did it! I was jobless recently, but I unearthed the site in the box below which is really helpful in a lot of ways. By using their methods, in a couple of weeks I soon got myself a job.

Government jobs that pay 200K are very rare, if they exist at all. In the federal service system, a top GS-15 may be able to make close to that, but it takes years (decades?) to work your way up. To get there, you really have to distinguish yourself in your professional service, generally through leadership and initiative, and making lots of professional friends through networking.

By then, your college curriculum will be largely irrelevant. It won't matter if you've taken calculus or economics or whatever. Focus on nailing down the courses that you do take. Don't be afraid to reach a bit, even if it means a possible lower mark than the easy courses. Plan ahead too to graduate school.
