My friend has multiple sclerosis and is about to lose her home- HELP!!!!?

She was barely surviving before but the new national healthcare system has just cut her federal assistance by $800 a month. She lives alone and has a part-time health aide, she will no longer be able to pay her rent and will be forced to go live in a nursing home. She has a master's degree in social work, does anyone know of any jobs she might be eligible for or some other way she can make up this devastating income cut? She is wheelchair bound but very intelligent and lives in Staten Island. Any info would be hugely appreciated, THANK YOU!!!!

Have her go to www.usajobs.gov and type "social work" in the keyword field and "new york" into the location field and just hit enter. She will see quite a few jobs for which she would be eligible. The Department of Veterans Affairs needs social workers, as does the Army Medical Command.

If she has a hankering to move almost anywhere in the nation, there are openings for social workers across the country. The pay is good, the benefits are good, and the mission is great -- To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan."

If she would like to get away from social work, but still use her degree, have her search for "veterans service representative." The VA is hiring lots of them right now and her masters degree in social work would qualify her for the starting grade of GS-7.

The fact that she is wheelchair bound is irrelevant; if however, she is housebound, well, she'll have to go to the job; the job won't come to her, I'm afraid.

She needs to do something. I know people with MS who have their own businesses. Simple ones they work from home in direct sales. It depends on how incapacitated she is.
