Are there any jobs in the field of human services?

I got my associates degree in human services 5 months ago, but have not had luck in finding a job in the field. Must of the jobs require that I gain experience by volunteering, but I need income for my family. Any advice?

First, an associates degree is worth diddly in social services, human services.

Second, you have plenty of competition for any job from people with masters degrees (MSW) plus experience. States and organizations both have laid off great numbers of people because they don't have either tax money or charitable donations to pay staff.

Third, you do need experience, and the only way to get it is as a volunteer or unpaid intern.

You did not investigate the job market and job prospects properly before you started out. Try getting some other work to support yourself and your family while you volunteer to get some experience. But remember the economy is in major difficulties and any "job" where the source of payroll monies comes from taxes, charitable donations, foundation grants, etc, is a job that is highly likely to disappear. You have to produce something of value to earn an income, not live off others', these days.
