Which is a better option...majoring in business management or hospitality management? I want to become a chef.?

I am 17 years old and I've been looking at colleges and career options for awhile now. I really want to become a chef...I have SO much passion for the culinary world and it has been my dream for a very long time. However, culinary school is not in the picture because my parents do not think it is a "practical enough" career choice. I plan on attending culinary school after I graduate from college, and I was wondering which would look better for being hired as a chef... A major in business management and a graduate from culinary school? Or a major in hospitality/restaurant management and a graduate from culinary school? It would be awesome if any Executive or Sous chefs out there would tell me which one they would be more likely to hire! This career is my dream and I don't want to waste my time in school on something that won't land me the job I'm looking for in this industry.

I think you should do what makes you happy. You will always regret not doing your passion. Here is a list of Culinary schools across the country. You can narrow it by state and even search by your zip code to just get the schools nearest you. I think you should look into taking a few specialized courses in culinary to see if it is really something you want to do before you decide on business. Everybody has a business degree, stand out! Do what you love!

First, I think it is a good idea to get a business degree first, before you go to culinary school. If your goal is to become a chef, I would recommend that you get the business management degree. When you apply for a job as a chef after culinary school, their main concern will be your culinary skills. Get the business degree in-case you cannot get a job as a chef, you will have that to fall back on. Good luck!
