What to say when quitting my job?

Category: Food Service

taylor!taylor!

I'm 16, and I currently work as a hostess at a seafood restaurant. I've worked there for two months, it's my first job, but I've hated it pretty much from the start, and have a found a new job which I start this Tuesday.

I plan on quitting today over the phone. Not professional, I know, but its a restaurant, not a corporate business firm or something. I'm terrified of what to say, and how to say it. Any advice?

Please don't do it by phone. You will need a good reference for your next job.

Google "resignation letter" input your info.

Take it to the manage - keep it positive - with the reason you are leaving.

Tell him you are truly very sorry.

This is a TOUGH job market - unemployment as high as it has been since the great depression.

You will need his positive reference for a future job.

Would love to see you give him at least 1 week notice.

2 weeks is standard.

Say.......

"Hi (Name of person)..

I have some bad news. I won't be able to work there anymore because I had to find another job"

And then, you can say sorry of you want to, and then say "well, i have to go now."

Scary to do, but just tell them the truth. Tell them how you found a new job and when you start. Usually, you should give a two-weeks notice, but you're 16 and it's your first job. Who cares?

You can do it!

Always quit a job in a professional way because you never know when you're going to need a reference.

Just say, "I'd like to thank you for training me in food service, but I've decided to take a job elsewhere. I will be unavailable as of Tuesday."

Life is a BULLY!

You are supposed to give 2 weeks' notice so since you've already botched that, at least have the decency to show up in person to quit.

When you arrive, thank them for the opportunity and for the knowledge and experience you gained. Tell them it was an absolute pleasure working with them.

The reason you want to do this is because you want to be able to list them on your resume and feel secure that they'll give a glowing review of you if anyone calls them to check up on you. You also never know what the future brings and you may find yourself needing to apply there again some day. If you burn the bridge, you can forget about both of those things.

Just call and be polite. Tell them you thank them for the opportunity but feel the job isn't right for you and you won't be returning. Pretty simple.

BUT next time you KNOW this isn't correct. You are starting your working life off on the wrong note. It is customary to give two weeks notice. You will find they will check your employment records as 'not eligible for rehire'. This can be reported to the next employer. You no longer will be able to reapply there even if you need a job.

Just tell them that another opportunity has presented itself that you feel is a better fit for you. Don't worry about their reaction. Just be polite about it so your reference will stay intact.

I would advise you to give at least a week notice because you never know if you would have to return to that job to work.

You should have at least given a two week notice and I don't suggest that you do it over the phone but if that's what you want to do...

But you should say something to the effect of: " I am resigning from (seafood resturant name) as (hostess). (Date) will be my last day of employment.

I appreciate the opportunities I have been given here, and wish you much success in the future.

Hope I helped!
