Personality and knowledge are key here. You also have to have great people skills. Nobody wants a debby downer behind the bar, they are already depressed (yes, alcohol is a depressant). Which brings me to the next point, for most bar regulars the bartender is like a psychiatrist. They feel comfortable telling the bartender some things they never tell their friends! All this, and an eye for detail. If a bartender leaves the same customer waiting to order a drink for too long, they are going to complain or worse leave. |

I guess it would depend on the bar. I do not drink but if the bartender is easy on the eyes I will get a water or something and tip her. |
