What are my chances in getting this part-time job?

The job I am applying for is Blimpie Subs, a fast food chain near where I live. Im 17 turning 18 in May and Im trying to make a first impression by wearing a dress shirt, tie, black dress pants and black shoes. I also created my resume (Name, Education, Organizations involved and computer/language skills) to go along with the Blimpie Subs job application that I am turning in tomorrow.
Though I am not 18 yet, I am attempting to show the manager/employer that I take this job seriously. Yet some of my friends, even my mom suggested that dressing properly is not necessary when only turning in an application. What do you think my chances are of getting an interview with this branch of fast food?

The tie might be going a little too far, but you have the right idea. You want to look good when turning in the application. You don't know who you will see while you are there. You might just see the 17-year-old kid working the counter, or you might end up meeting the manager on duty. |

The tie might be a little bit of overkill. Looking good however is not a bad idea. You should ask for the manager on duty so that he/she has the opportunity to match a face to the resume. You could even start with "Hi, I am %#$%@ and I wanted to turn in an application. Can you tell me how soon you are planning to hire?" If you go, when things are not busy perhaps if you get to the hiring person you may have the chance to interview. Good luck. |
