Tips for a good job interview?

Category: Food Service

I am applying to be a busser at a sushi resteraunt.

Its not that extreme of an interview obviously but i REALLY need a job and i want to make a good impression.

When it comes to interviews i get very nervous, and sometimes say stupid things.

I have only had one job before, for two years....and i am 19 so i dont know how good that looks... but it was in customer service.

But what are some good things to say in an interview? How can i keep calm? Also i heard i was good to ask questions when they ask if you have any, but i can never think of any...

1. Smile. A LOT. and MAKE EYE CONTACT! i know it might seem awkward but it's important. If they ask what your best traits are, tell them you're a hard worker do well in a fast paced environment. Maybe give an example from your other job. That you are able to see when things need to be done, and make sure it's done the right way. Just talk yourself up! Idk how much you'll really be dealing with customers, but it's always good to say something about being a "people person" or something along those lines.

2. Depending on what it was, it could be a good thing that you've only had one, for 2 yrs. You're young, so that shows that you're dedicated and responsible. (I'm also 19 and I just got hired today for job #10... THAT looks bad. Serious commitment issues, haha)

3. Just take a deep breath, and remember that people are just people. Don't be intimidated, because they were probably put in your same position to get where they are today. Think about it, if you met someone on the street who said "I manage a sushi restaurant" would you be intimidated? probably not. No biggie :) Besides, it's not like you're making a career out of this, so don't take it TOO seriously.

4. LOOK GOOD! for your own benefit. When you feel good about how you look, your confidence will be much higher than if didn't have time to put on mascara.

5. If you can't think of a question, say "i feel like you covered everything pretty well, Thank you!" and smile some more.

You can ask what the shift hours are like, and if they're consistent, or shuffled between you and the other bussers. ask about uniforms/dress code. when they were expecting to hire by (so you'll know whether or not you got it if you don't receive a call by then) that's probably the most logical because this always comes at the end of an interview.

6. when you get up to leave, SHAKE THEIR HAND, make eye contact, say thank you, and smile. tell them to have a good day. hold doors for people on your way out, they could still be watching.

Hope this helped! Good luck!!
