Take this job and shove it?

I hate my job with every bit of heart and soul I have. The problem is that I'm literally living paycheck to paycheck. I'm 24 and been paying my own bills, buying my own clothes, and feeding myself since I was 16. Right now I have excellent credit, but I'm just absolutely miserable. I'm starting to wonder if keeping this job is even worth it. I never have any extra cash because my bills come first, and this has resulted in me losing friends- and having no social life whatsoever. At work it has become so bad that I have at least one minor-severe anxiety attack every day I go in. I used to only get them once every 2-3 months... but this is now an every day occurrence. I'm also a college student. My boss is very negotiable with my schedule, but coworkers get's pissed at me and talk behind my back when (heaven forbid) I can't work on my day off. I'm just past the burnt out point.

I know I need to put in my resume elsewhere, and I have every intention of doing so, but I simply have no time or energy between working full time and being a full time student (part time in the summer). I just don't know what to do anymore. This place is consuming my happiness, and am afraid to risk my excellent credit by quitting (resulting in, unable to pay bills).

What's your opinion?

First of all, I am so sorry that you have to deal with this; it sounds like a very miserable job. If you are having minor to severe anxiety attacks every day, it is past time to find something else. Living pay check to pay check is very risky and stressful. Also, not being able to have a social life is bad as well as you cannot blow off steam like you normally would with your friends.

It sounds like you are an extremely hard worker, what with going to college and working, so you should pat yourself on the back for that.

You have been working for eight years now; if you put this on your resume, it is going to look excellent. Why? Because you have been loyal to this business and others for so long now and are not one of those people that works there for two months and then quits. You also have plenty of experience as well. Businesses value this in an employee, and this will be a huge plus if you apply to another business. My suggestion to you is to fill out as many applications as you can and/or resumes and drop them off to different businesses in your town. Continue working, of course, but at the same time keep your eye out for a better job. When you eventually land an interview (and you will! Sometimes it takes time, but I promise you that you will) and get hired, give your two week notice to your current employer. By doing these things, you are not risking your paycheck but at the same time are getting a better job (maybe even a better paying job!).

Hope I helped, and best of luck!

Been there! Find another job. ASAP. It's not worth it to feel this way, to hate your life and everything in it, just for a job. You can find another one. Even if it your next job isn't a lot better, a change of scenery and a new set of problems will do you a lot of good. Don't quit until you have a new job. If you do that, no credit problems.

You'll be happy you did it. Revise that resume and get it out there!

Good luck.
