Should I ask to waiter?

Category: Food Service

Ive worked at this resturaunt as a bus boy for 6 months now, and i applied for a waitering position, they hired 6 of us and theyve trained up three, i started 2nd and im wondering if i should ask to be trained up, its normally something they ask you to do, but my jobs started to become a bit of a rut, i like where i work but i would love to try something new and different, even if it is more difficult, i help out waiters all the time, the only things i cant do is take orders and get tips basically, but i know im ready because all the others have been trained up and i started before 2 of them. Should I ask or wait and see if they ask me? i know it sounds impatient but the experience for uni would be brilliant,

I think you should first know exactly who has the authority to hire you. If you make the mistake of confusing management, they could keep you from advancing. So, yes, once you know who has the power, go ahead and speak up. Be positive about your experiences, your future, and how you can enhance the business you work for when you ask for a new responsibility. You sound professional and confident that you will do a good job, and I think that will be reflected in your communication. You have been patient. I think you'll get it.
