Is this a valid reason to fire an employee?
I worked at a pretty big Japanese restaurant (about 200 seats) as a server for 4 months. The management there lacks many things, like training new employees properly, listening to their questions or concerns, etc. I was never actually trained, so I was forced to learn through trial and error. On top of that the kitchen crew is very slow (the restaurant is known for it). During lunchtime it gets really busy, especially Saturdays as we have All You Can Eat. We don't have a hostess, as management doesn't want to have to pay more money to another employee every shift (because they're cheapskates). Because of this we have to host (greet and seat customers) on top of everything else, and there's usually only two servers working a shift.
Last week I was on lunch shift and it was getting really packed. I was running nonstop and had to deliver food JUST as a group of 5 ladies came in through the door. I bussed the food to my table quickly and ran to the door (it's pretty far away) and sat the ladies. They ALL ordered chicken teriyaki, which at this restaurant is a very decorative plate and takes 20 minutes to make. Everything was fine until they called me over and said they had to go soon and were wondering if it would be long, I told them another 5 minutes and it would be done. It took the kitchen a little over 25 minutes to make the food, which I asked them to place in to-go boxes so I could just bring it to them quickly. However while I was waiting for the food to come out I was called by one of my tables as the were ready to order. They were a large indecisive group so it took about 7 or 8 minutes for them to finalize their order. The other server I was working with was just standing behind the counter when it happened so she could have easily done me the favor of delivering the food to the women at the front. As soon as I was done I ran to the door with the food only to find out that the 5 women had left. Towards the end of my shift the manager asked me why there was food sitting out and I told him what happened. He was upset. And just my luck, the same incident happened the exact same week, where I had 3 tables on my head with 4 other table orders to punch in. This particular table's order was the last one I punched in, even though they were the second people I asked. So obviously the food had a 5 minute delay and was taking longer than expected so the customers left. I believe these two are the reasons for why I was fired. Was it a valid one? I did my best and have been complimented for my friendly and attentive service many times while working here, but apparently I am "not suitable" for the job.

I'm sorry to hear that you were fired, especially in these tough economic times. It sounds like your former restaurant isn't being run efficiently. Whoever schedules should have put more servers on that shift or they should hire one or two more. Poor customer service (not that it was your fault) will not bring customers back, and they'll tell their friends about it. |

No,Its Not Your Fault People Were Not Getting Their Food On Time. You Were The Waitress Not The Cook. Some Food Is Done Before Other Kinds Of Food.So Sometimes Someones Food Will Sit Longer Than Others Because When It Got Done God Only Knows What You Are In The Middle Of When The Order Came Up.You Could Of Been Taking A Order And As A Waitress Myself We Know How Long Some Can Take Ordering Food. We Can't Just Walk Off In The Middle Of The Order Because We Work For Tips And If The Customers Are Not Happy They Just Mite Be A Bill We Can't Pay Because We Are A Busy Restaratant And Management Want Heir Another Waitress Because They Think All Waitress Are Super Women And 2 Can Run A Very Busy Establishment And Make All The Customers Happy All At The Sametime. You Seat Them,Get Their Drinks.Take Their Orders And In Between Also Do A Refill And Carry Out Another Tables Food And Back To Them You Go With A Smile To Bring Them Their Food And Another Refill On Drinks And Back Around To Check On Everyone Else To Do The Same For Them.Waitress Work Very Hard And Make Very Little Money.Live On Tips From One Day To The Next And Try To Keep Everyone Happy And Do It With A Smile And Some Days Its Hard To Keep That Smile On Your Face But You Got To Do It..Sorry I Got Started On All That But You Being Fired For Seems Like The Hardest Working Waitress There Just Makes Me Angry. I Know What You Are Going Thru And Its Not Fair At All.You Were Fired For No Good Reason.Remember 1 Thing What Goes Around Comes Around. If You Feel Like You Did Your Best Things Will Come Back On The People That Have Done Us Wrong. But Always Find Forgiveness In Your Heart For People Like That Or You Will Turn Bitter In Your Heart As You Get Older And You Don't Need Nothing Weighing You Down In Life.Life Is To Short To Waste It..Stay Young At Heart And Always Keep Your Mind Free !!!!
