How much do new bartenders make? Will i get paid hourly and tips or just hourly? What advice would you give me on starting this new career? Thanks.

A bartender in an upscale New York City hotel can make $100,000 a year. Most new bartenders at nightclubs or bars make $16,000 a year. Not much money but it is a good life. Not much pressure and you never take your work problems home with you.

Skip the school. You don't need it. The schools are graduating 20 people for every job.

Get the books free at the library. 90% of all customers order beer.

Offer to sub in at several local clubs if a bartender calls in sick at the last minute. You might get a break.

Actually, it depends. If you're really good, then you'll have more offers and you'll get paid even better.

Just like journalists, only the best journalists makes it on top and get higher compensation. The not so excellent journalists normally stay in front of their computer and get paid as a ghost writer.

LOL...

BARTENDING SCHOOL?

Look, I'll do you an favor as someone who has worked as one.

1) Don't go to bartending "school".

2) Either work as a waiter, or server, and step your way up as a bartender...

3) Diploma's/degrees are SO WORTHLESS. One of my managers laughed at this guy who wanted to be a bartender at our cheesecake factory, when he had no experience..

Basically...

GET EXPERIENCE FIRST AS A BARTENDER... You will not get a job. Diploma is good to land good jobs, but it only looks good alongside experience... Try to just either learn bartending from a friend, then apply to one where they ask for no experience.

You'll make the most money at Hotels, fancy restaurants, easily 35,000+.

Things to keep in mind? Expect this job to be horrendous, tiring, and very exhausting. You're going to at first be very stressed out, but once you get the hang of it, everything will be good. Find a friend possibly who can give you recommendation so you can learn it from a restaurant.

Work at a sports pub or some type of restaurant where it's just relaxing, chances are, most people will order beer 85% of the time.
