Attending job fair in MD?
37 yr old unemployed female currently living in CT. I am considering relocating to MD I love the area and believe that I have a better chance of finding employment there. I've registered for two job fairs that will be taking place in Aug and Sept. I have a B.S in Business Administration,w/concentration in Finance. Most of background has been in the info technology working with databases and system implementation.
What are the chances of finding employment at a job fair?? Is it a waste of time?? Should I be considering other resources? If so, what should those resources be?
Please give your honest opinion

Do your research on the job fair to see if there are companies attending that you are interested in. You should also be networking online (Linkedin is a great place) as well as using the career center at the college you graduated from. They have a vested interest in helping you be successful because if you are not successful, then the education that you paid for becomes less credible. Also consider networking with alumni groups from your university. They know what kind of education you received and could be more willing to refer you to a good resource, company or even job. |

I would go to the job fair with an open mind however don't be disappointed if it turns out to be a waste of time. The best resource I have found to find employment is careerbuilder.com or the local newspaper. In Baltimore, our local paper is The Sun (www.sunspot.net). |

I live in maryland/ PG County, near DC and I work in Montgomery County/Rockville. I have to say that MD and VA has always been the best for job searches, and the reason why people move here. I was unemployed since Feb and I recently got this clerical job full time. I applied to about 50 places a day. I interviewed for this current job when they asked for temp and they ended up hiring me full time, thankfully. |
