I am 23 weeks pregnant (1st child) and am going back to school. I have already gotten the FAFSA process started... I have filled out all paperwork and been approved. I am going to take a couple classes this summer but since it is for the 2010-2011 school year I will not start getting any kind of compensation until the fall. My baby is due in September so I won't be going to school for the first semester, and the plan is to take 2 classes for the 2nd semester. Will I only be getting checks while I am actively attending classes, so I will have to wait until the 2nd semester? How much should I expect to get?

Hi there. I would think that you would get federal money for the second semester since you said that is when you would be able to take classes. As for how much money you expect to get, I am not sure how to answer that question. Why don't you contact the financial aid office of the school you plan on attending to find how much money you'd get.

If you are FAFSA qualified, the money goes to the school to pay your tuition and school-connected expenses. None of it goes to you personally. The amount you get depends on your income, your family income, your assets, and the number of hours you are enrolled. You will not receive any grant or student loan funds if you are not enrolled for the semester. Again, the funds all go into an account with the school.
