Has anyone gotten certified as a CPA, and was a non-accounting major in undergrad?

I majored in public communications, with minors in economics and entrepreneurship & emerging enterprises. I work in the film/tv business, I want to get certified as a CPA so I can work on accounting projects and do accounting jobs in between production gigs. Being a CPA will also help me produce more stuff in the future. I'm looking at post bacc accounting certificate programs so I can get all the credits i need to get a CPA (which really just means 24 accounting credits in my state, since I meet the other academic requirements with my minors minus the experience of course), and I was curious if anyone has gone that route? Any suggestions? Much appreciated, 10 points to the best answer.

Yes, many people have gone this route. Once you've satisfied the accounting requirements to sit for the CPA exam, all you need to do is study to pass it. No big deal. (No small deal, but no big deal either).

If you own a degree - or any alternative qualification - then you'll already be ahead of the crowd when it comes to looking for vocations. My mate has a degree and he wasn't sure what direction to go with it, but he discovered some excellent instruction on the resource in the resource box below which guided him to settle that he wanted to be a lab assistant. There is plenty of assistance on the resource regarding alternative vocations.

I don't see how you would be allowed to take most of those accounting classes without being enrolled in a degree-seeking program as an accounting major at a University - you just can't go and say I want to take these 8 accounting courses -especially the advanced ones - for one - they will probably NOT be available as night courses and you probably won't be allowed to just take though courses online if offered that way without being enrolled in a degree-seeking program

for one thing - it would probably take 3-4 yrs to do it - most of the courses require you to pass aonther one first and you'd probably also have to wind up taking other business courses - Business Law is one section of the CPA and without an actual DEGREE in accounting, you probably won't ever get hired by a CPA firm to get your auditing hours into complete the certification process.

how is a CPA going to help you "Produce more stuff"?? - whatever that means
