Florida Unemployment question?

My husband got laid off in May, and was getting unemployment, and he found another job doing oil spill cleanup, and this job was saying he would be getting like 70-80 hours a week, but he is only getting 12, and it's only half what he was getting from unemployment. Would he still be elgible to receive some kind of compensation, or are we just completely screwed since he actually got back out there and tried to work instead of sitting on his butt and riding out the unemployment?

You should call the FL Agency for Workforce Innovation at 800-204-2418 and ask them specifically. I've done a bit of research but have not seen anything specifically regarding "underemployment". There are states that specifically state that, for example, you are eligible for $500/week and you ear $250/week and are considered "underemployed", the state will cover your underemployment gap. But to get the true answer for your specific situation would require a call to the above. |

He should still be able to draw the differance between what he is making and what his unemployment amount is. You just have to say how much when you do your weekly claim and they will deduct what you made. |
