Why is it important to have a good working environment from a management prospective

i.e. costs of providing environment over productivity

I agree with RK, but I dont think that good work environment is dependent on material things for comfort. Things that dont even cost a company extra money is simple gratitude and appreciation from bosses/management. You have no idea how far a simple 'thank you' goes with an employee. Its all about morale. If employees are happy, they are more willing to put out for their employer. Frustrate or piss off an employee, do you really think they are going to bust *** for you? Instead of focusing on what gets done wrong, the focus needs to be on what gets done right, then point out what needs to be corrected. Sometimes employers forget that their employees are not just numbers...they are people, and in order to get these people to work for them, you have to have some social skills.

Well, primarily, it is for the comfort of the workers, so they can take some pleasure in their working space. Worker satisfaction can be very important in worker productivity, although there is a fine line between comfortable environment to increase happiness, and comfortable environment to invoke laziness.

It also makes sure that they feel more relaxed upon return home.

You can find the answer upon self-reflection, even. Would you prefer to work in an office with plastered walls and painful lighting, or one adorned with plants and fishtanks?

If it is a good working environment then the employees will be happy as well! And if your employees are happy then they perform better and they don't mind being at work either. My brother and I were both managers for two different companies. I keep my area good, clean, fun, and happy as possible in and working environment. I had 575 employees under me the one person with the less amount time there was 29 years and the person with the most years there was 55 years.

My brother who was so strict, crude, no fun at all was losing people left and right! The person in his group of 560 who had the least amount of time was 1 month the person with the most time was 1 year. He could not in his 29 years there keep his employees due to the way he ran his dept. I was manager for my company for 30 I lost 3 people their were 68 years old and they all retired!

Seven of my brother's employees came to work for me, and asked me why my brother was such a jerk! That's not healthy for a work environment what so ever!

I'm 50 I retired 3 years ago, and all my employees still to this day keep in touch with me! My brother is 54 and he retired last year and none of his employees keep in touch. When he left production went up by 68% and the work going out was a 100%! When I left the product went from 99.9% down to 75% and the work going out that use to be 100% went down to 89%!

Now tell me there isn't a difference?

It's sooooo! important because it creates the mood you work in. If there is a bad environment people get miserable and start to feel demotivated and they will moan. On the opposite side if you create a good mood everyone will be happy, work weel and hit deadlines and it will be just great!
