Preparing for a job interview?

Category: Administrative & Office Support

I have a job interview tomorrow (for a customer services/helpdesk role) and am doing everything I can to prepare for it. I am researching the company, coming up with answers for possible questions that may be asked etc - but how much should I really be preparing?

I've made notes but obviously can't bring them with me to the interview, but obviously am not going to remember EVERYTHING I've written down either, so should I just stop now, relax and forget about it until tomorrow? And hope everything comes into my head as the questions are actually asked? I don't know what else I can do to prepare!

No. Your doing well in preparing for your interview. Keep it up. You don't have to write down too many things...Maybe during the interview, bring up a few interesting facts about the company that most would not know about. Show interest in the company and show up 15 minutes early to the interview. Make sure your answers to the questions match what the company is looking for. And finally, just remember the basics, strong handshake, eye contact, smile, and a clean professional look. Remember, first impressions mean a TON. Trust me :)

Just relax. This interview is about you. So your going to go in and show them your the best person for the job. Be confident and show them that your are proffessional. If you are nervous then it will be noticeable to them. Talk about the experiences you learn in past employement and how you will use them in the next job

Sounds like you are prepared now it is time to relax and review what you have prepared one more time then put it down provided you have your resume and references available to take with you just in case. Have a good meal, good night's sleep, get up early and have a good meal, get prepared nice conservative clothes for the job so you can be at the interview early taking in mind any accidents along the way. Go inside the building 10-15 minutes early just in case you may have to fill out any paperwork before the interview. When they come to get you shake their hand get their name and title (if possible get a business card) repeat it to them so it stays in your head. You will want this information for a Thank you card/email after the interview. Be relaxed in the interview take your time answering and understanding the questions. If in doubt ask for clarification then tell them why you are the best candidate and they should hire you. Make sure if you want the job at the end of the interview you tell them of your interest and ask for the job (believe it or not far too many people forget this step). Make sure to clarify next steps shake their hand and thank them for the interview by once again using their name and saying something like, "Thank you Mrs. Jones I really look forward to having the opportunity to work for your company. Please let me know when I can start." I hope this helps and wish you all the best in getting the job. Good luck

Just be yourself and dress smart. A common question they ask is - what do you see yourself doing in 5 years time?, i usually say, with the current unemployment problems I don't think that far ahead but hope I will still have a job. They also ask, if you get an irate customer how would you deal with them?(this is a trick question) You would tell them that if it was something you could help them with you would help to the best of your ability and if you could not help them you find find someone of seniority that could help them. Good luck for the interview - I have one on friday for same type of job.

Everyone has some solid suggestions. In addition, get a good night's sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, wear clothes that make you feel smart and pulled together. (Leave off the fragrance. Some people are allergic.)

Read through your notes the night before. Getting a good night's sleep will help you take that short term memory to your long term memory.

Don't get flustered if the interviewer asks a question to which you don't have an answer. Smile and say, "I don't have the answer to that question and will treat it the same way with you that I would a client. I have your contact information, may I research the answer and get back to you today?"

The ability to stay calm, especially in the face of an angry or confused client will be one of your most important skills. Showing the interviewer that you are not easily knocked off balance will be huge. Good-luck.
