Is there an easy strategy for dummies to get a good job?

By this I mean a job that matches your qualifications and experience so I'm not being unrealistic. It is just that everytime I apply for a new job, cos of the huge number of applications, I either get:

- declined at very start as either job has been filled or I was not shortlisted

- called into an interview and then told I did not make it to next stage

- called into a second interview and then told I did not make it to next stage

- been to two interviews but only one reference person was available to talk to, the other one was on holiday so my application was declined in favour of other people.

In my life I would have applied for one hundred jobs and in total I have had about 15 jobs in my life, including what I am working in now.

Is there is simple ten step process that you can follow, which with persistence, will almost guarantee you a job at the end???

And don't talk about college (I already have a degree) and don't talk about internet opportunites/working from home - I'm talking about a real job. Any structured ideas???

Situation 1: Declined at the Start

Look man, it takes 0 effort at the start to apply to a job, especially in the skilled categories. The real effort is already done in your resume and experience -- you lose nothing by applying and being rejected. Sure, it sucks, but man up -- its the only way to keep the steam through bad times.

Situation 2: Called in to the interview, but declined

You lose the time you could be job-hunting in this case, but alternatively you are learning other things. Take your time going to your interview -- it de-stresses you before your interview, and you can drive down odd streets to see that mis-zoned building that's hiring your specialty.

In between interviews, learn as much about the company and industry possible -- not to show off, but to show that you're willing to learn new things.

Furthermore, I'd say when you're unemployed, you're not applying to enough jobs if you're only hitting a 1:10 ratio. You're a lucky sun' *****. 100 jobs a week was a good target for me. Likely, you weren't seeing the skills you have.

Computer skills, even at the most basic, are highly valued in any job. You'd be surprised what even only what you'd consider average knowledge in something to be within the skill set of the oddest jobs.

And to be honest, it's always good to keep a stiff upper lip about being unemployed, even when you're having the worst time in your life. Even when your interview clothes stink because you had to walk back from the interview because your car is in the shop and you don't even have money for the bus ride back, killing the opportunity to apply to about 20 jobs, you have to hang out with friends and keep your morale high.

As to getting jobs in specific fields -- if you're ambitiously reaching for the best job you'd ever get -- find out what things the people in that profession know. Learn as much as you can, so you can apply it in unrelated fields in the meantime.

I would suggest a career aptitude test. As for a ten step process you need to ask yourself.

What motivates you?

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Do you access yourself before and after an interview?

From these 15 jobs you had, what brought you the most success?

If you had some failures, what did you learn?

Knowing how we get frustrated in this market, we always should keep an optimistic outlook
