Im Pregnant and I Want a New Job.......?

Ok, so here's the situation. I have been working at the same place for a while now. I found out I was pregnant in September of 09 (a couple of days before I missed my period) Anyway, The job that I have is in sales. Its a very cut throat environment. Imagine being micro-managed, supervisors telling you that you dont have enough song in your voice when you leave messages, employees stealing your sales, etc. Also the company says that there are no sales quotas but if you don't meet a certain number at the end of the month, they put you on a list and in three months you're fired (I know it sounds bad, but I've seen it happen to plenty of people) The problem is, this company pays salary so everyone wants to work there because its guaranteed money...(until you start working there and find out just how expendable you are). They have the type of attitude that clearly states, you can be replaced with the snap of a finger so we don't need you.

When I found out I was pregnant, i was have morning sickness (throwing up in my desk trash can) and my boss walks by and says, "hurry up and get that out so you can get back to work"

I did so much explaining how this place is so that I don't get any answers that encourage me to stay there. So since I've been there, i have consistently been looking for another job. I found one that I am really interested in, but I'm concerned now that I'm seven months. Just because I'm pregnant doesn't mean that I don't need to support myself. Also, my fiance is employed, and we do live together. So don't think I'm this single mother looking for a handout. I am only trying to switch my career, right before my baby is due. As soon as he is born, I plan to get right back out there. Or I could work from home, as long as I'm making some sort of income before and after giving birth to my child.

You can find legitimate home businesses in the areas of direct sales, affiliate marketing, and network/referral marketing, encompassing a variety of product lines and/or services. Some legitimate telecommuting and freelance opportunities include customer service, virtual assistant, tutor, telemarketer, sales, transcription, translation, blogging, online guide, writer, editor, consultant, concierge, nursing, mystery shopping, tech support, marketing, and online juror.

The explanations are no help, and you can't work at home as those jobs don't exist.

No one will hire you when you're pregnant...sucks but true. Look for a job after the baby comes and you can devote your full attention to it.

Who do you have health benefits with?

if it is where you are at - you better not think about leaving before the baby is born or you will lose those benefits and have to pay the hospital bill yourself

if you are covered by husband's or other insurance, then just stick it out as long as you can physically - no one is going to hire you until after the baby is born

So what is the question?

you want to quit, i get that.

you don't want to hear any reason why you shouldn't quit, i get that.

so what is your question?

I don't recommend that you quit yet unless you have health care benefits through another source, like a parents' health care plan. If so, then there is hardly an incentive to stay in that hostile environment. If your employer doesn't offer health care and you are not under your parents' plan then maybe you qualify for Medicaid. However, if you have over a certain amount of assets and no insurance you will need to pay the enormous costs associated with child birth.

You automatically receive 12 weeks of unpaid family leave by federal law, you pick when it starts and ends. I suggest that you really buckle down and search for jobs now because it sometimes takes months to hear back. Hopefully shortly after your baby is born you will have a fresh start at a new place. Sorry, but I just don't see it being feasible to quit your current job yet.

Another thought, if you get fired for inability to perform the duties required by the job then you can file for unemployment insurance compensation. That extra income could help get you through until you have another job lined up and there are a lot of job search tools and resume writing techniques at an unemployment office. COBRA benefits are very expensive but are there by federal law for terminated employees if you needed to exercise that option in order to pay for the birth of the baby.

Good luck and I wish you all the best with your soon to be new family.
