I'm starting to get VERY depressed from the economy. What else can I do?

I've done everything I was supposed to do to avoid this!! I went in the military, used my GI Bill to get a degree. I have an AA and will have my BS next year in Human Resources. I'm a veteran, I have a degree, I had my resume professionally revised, I spend hours upon hours 7 days a week applying for jobs, I've walked into offices to apply (every single one telling me they only do online applications), I've followed up after applying, I joined a professional organization to network, I've read interview skills books, I've done it all!! I made business cards up with my resume summary on it... I am busting my butt here and trying to get a job... but now I'm starting to get depressed. NOTHING is happening. I get an interview here and there, I answer the questions honestly and correctly. The interviews go great, the interviewer likes me, I follow up after the interview to express further interest... and then, I don't get the job...

I'm afraid a lot of it may have to do with my age... sadly... I'm a woman in her late twenties with no kids and I'm married... I'm afraid employers don't want to hire me because they don't want me to get pregnant and take maternity leave... Is this a valid fear??

I don't know what else to do...

It's not you, it's the stinking economy.

I have many friends with stellar qualifications and experience that have been searching for jobs for periods up to 2 years, without success.

This is one of the worst recessions I have experienced; the official government figures are NOT telling the truth, they leave out those who have given up, and they assume that all employed are at salary levels commensurate with their qualifications/experience - absolutely not true.

You simply need to keep on trying, all you need is one offer. You need to polish up interviewing skills, and be prepared when you go for interview, do some background research on the company so you are knowledgeable about their services or products, etc.

The next time you get rejected, ask the interviewer why you were passed over. That could give you some valuable information.

Tell them you are a lesbian - they'll be frightened not to hire you then for fear of a discrimination suit.

It is not a valid fear you are having. We are still in the recession and with the market still slowly regaining to hire. Even in the field you are in of Human Resources, sometimes you have to take something else regarding employment until finding your field. Perhaps administration, non profit sector, temporary or some volunteer work.

Keep networking with other professionals in your field as well distribute your resume with friends and family. Lastly, your age has nothing to do with you being hired. Many adults from their 20 and beyond are still reeling and keeping their faith til they find work.

Keep faith and good luck in your search.

WOW you have done 10x more than me and I get interviews. Do you get interviews? Let me ask---what branch did you join in the military because I'm thinking of joining to get money. I am in between schools now and I can barely get an AA.

Look-you know that people with several degrees can't get a job. NO ONE can-it's very hard and you know when companies are hiring, they prefer to train and spend money on people that have a lot of experience.

Why not try the state? Like the state job bank.

Hm.....no-I don't think marriage/kids has ANYTHING to do with it.

Face it hun, you do not have enough skills.
