How to sound chipper looking for jobs?

It's really getting a pain job hunting. Feedback I'm getting is that 120-140 applications are being received for advertised positions, so the interviews you have the opportunity to sit are super important. How do you keep sounding upbeat and positive when you know it's 140:1 Against? Just completed an intensive week long search and feeling even more deflated than ever. Have at least one interview lined up for next week so far but find it really hard to be excited.

Id have to say just have fun with it. be professional of course but dont be too stressed out about not getting the job. cuz like you said 120-140 appications. the odds are in ur favor just believe that if u didnt get one job then there is another even better out there waiting. just be urself and dont take not getting a job too personally. just remember ur an amazing person there missing out on u not the other way around:)

Sorry to say, but one week of searching is not a lot, no matter how intensive.

I suggest that you write out a speech to the "tell me about yourself" question, trying to include as many positive and upbeat points as possible. Practice that speech at least once a day until you can deliver it easily.

Meet with a friend and run a practice interview, getting feedback from your friend afterward. Maybe you can take turns interviewing one another.

Dress carefully for the interview so you know you look sharp. Arrive early. Stand up straight.

Good luck.

It is difficult but can be done with positive feedback or environment. The best things that can help are some of the following: 1) Study the position and company and picture yourself in the job doing what you are supposed to, having people come to you for help, advice, etc. 2) Read self help books on maintaining a positive attitude 3) Go to a homeless shelter and volunteer a couple days to see how good you have it. I have also included a few web-sites for you to review also. I hope this helps and wish you all the best in your search. One thing you might try doing is to see how well your skill sets fit in other job descriptions. Good luck

It is a tough job market out there but there are a few things you can do to set yourself apart.

When researching a job see if you can get a name of someone in HR. Try to get someone on the phone so that when you send your resume to them you can remind them that you already spoke about the position.

Sign up at every employment agency you can get to. Don't wait until you see a job on a job board, call them to see if they have any jobs available and ask to come and speak to a recruiter.

As opposed to "chipper" try to sound upbeat, positive, and personable. Smile when you talk to people on the phone

I know many people who have been unemployed for months to over a year but you have to stick at it. Good Luck!
