How long before I know they won't hire me?

The One In the DarkThe One In the Dark

I applied at a job on Monday, they called on Tuesday, and interviewed on Wednesday. How long before I can tell if they won't hire me or not? They seemed quick about the interview and all so wouldn't they be quick about hiring? Please help?

It depends on the type of job you applied for and how many they are interviewing. Sometimes if they do not get enough applicants they will advertise again, but today's market has many trying for the same job. If they are really busy, it could affect how long it takes to make the decision.

In a corporate world, it could take anywhere from a week to a month or more.

If you don't hear anything in a week or so, you can contact them to find out the status.

First off you should have a more positive attitude about this rather than asking how long before you know they won't hire you.

You don't know what they are going to decide...yet. Best bet is to wait for at least a week.

I'm sure you weren't the only one who applied and was interviewed for this job and it while they were quick to get the ball rollling intially, it takes time and consideration while weeding out the applicants and making their final decision.

Best of luck to you!

After an interview as you know, send a thank you letter that will impress them. Follow up with a phone call a week after the interview (make sure that you get his/her business card). As others stated from your question, it is a matter of the impression and knowledge you bring to the interview and how polished you are. In the meanwhile, keep sending out more resumes, you just may have other offers as well.

Good luck in your search.
