Hired on as hourly employee, how long before I am salaried?

Category: Administrative & Office Support

I was hired on in the HR department of my company about five months ago as an hourly employee. I received a small raise after about two months and receive compliments constantly about how I am doing an outstanding job. How long are hourly employees usually at a job before they are promoted to a salary? I realize I haven't been working at my job long but I'm just trying to get a feel of about how long most companies usually take to promote.

Some employees never get put on salary.

And be careful if you ask!

I was once in this position, and a salary was mentioned. First, there would be no overtime pay, and I estimated that going from hourly to salaried would result in a substantial cut. I never bought the subject up again.

There is no set or even average time.................

in reality how you are paid is irrelevant, you could be salary, hourly, piece rate or commission, all that really matters is the job at hand and what jobs come available in the future......

your obvious lack of experience will be what holds you back more then anything, the only way to overcome that is with time on the job.

as you gain real world experience, improve your skill-set, and learn the companies procedures promotions will come your way.
