Contacting HR about future vacancies?
Was one of the two final candidates for a job. and i just got news that i lost out on the job offer. the company is a part of the publishing division of a large media corporation (think: newspapers, books, magazines, etc.) id like to inquire about (future) job openings at other companies within this division. more specifically, someone from sister company of this division with the same job title that i had interviewed for recently left. and id like to ask HR about this specific vacancy, as it is not listed on their online careers site as a current job opening.
is this okay to do? what is the best script to follow when asking HR about this? what is the likelihood that this position will be filled soon? should i ask the hiring manager from my recent interview for his expertise on this? or should i directly speak with the likely hiring manager of this sister company?
any thoughts or advice is appreciated !

Contact the HR dept and let them know that you are still interested in working for them. Tell them know you understand there is a position opening that you are interested in. They will tell you what you should do and chances are you will be told to look on their website and when the position is posted that you can apply online. |

So her is a legitimate initial approach to take with HR and not seem like you are stepping out of line. Call HR and tell them who you are, that you were the runner up and wanted to know what you could have done better because you really would like to work for their company. Let them talk to you about this if they will if not they may tell you they have a new position that you would fit in. If they don't tell you about it. Ask them if there was any truth to something you heard about someone leaving. If you don't get far with HR which may be tight lipped and you feel you had a good relationship with the hiring manager take the same approach. I have found if you ask for help or clarifications from someone they will usually help if they can. He might introduce you or tell you to contact the other hiring manager and use his name. This is what I would do to track this down and move into a front runners spot. I hope this helps and wish you all the best. Good luck |
