Can an office manager get promoted and to what position?

I work as an office manager in a small company (12 employees) and feel there is no way up. Do you know of any office managers that got promoted within their company or got a better position elsewhere? I was thinking of getting accountancy qualifications, as there seems to be more opportunities for progression but am not sure that changing my career completely is worth it.

For a small company it is difficult for an office manager to go very much further. If you go somewhere else yes it it possible. But if you learn accounting and are qualified it can lead to so many more opportunities in the long run for you. Also having been an office manager will give you a leg up on others in the accounting field who haven't managed others. I would add accounting to your skills and you will have many opportunities come your way. I hope this helps and wish you all the best. Good luck |

It's harder when it is a small company for there aren't that many departments. But also, you have to ask yourself if you believe if the company has potential to grow. Because if it does grow in the future, you have the opportunity to grow in your position and career. If you believe it may not have the potential to grow, then consider maybe looking around.
