Software Systems Engineer (Intermediate) - DPG
Position Summary: Role Summary: Under general supervision, designs and develops new software products or major enhancements to existing software.
Works from specification to develop or modify moderately complex software programming applications.
Assists with design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation of programs.
Applications generally deal with web based, enterprise applications or installable client/server applications.
Competent to work on most phases of software systems programming applications, but requires instruction and guidance in other phases.
Representative Duties: Responsible for creating technical responses, including proposed approach, designs and estimates for business requirements under the general supervision of project management and software architects.
Upon design approval, responsible for data modeling, implementation, unit tests and integration of the software designed to meet the requirements.
Works in collaboration with other software systems engineers and software architects to ensure a high quality deliverable in a timely manner.
Job Deliverables: Depending on the phase of the requirements from product management, this role is responsible for the following: · Technical response to requirements and requirement clarification requests · Propose technical design · Data models (XML and relationsional) · Software design documentation including technical use cases · Implementation of the software design in appropriate frameworks and technologies (e.
g., Java, J2EE, Tomcat, Apache as a development framework) · Test driven development including extension unit tests and automated testing · Support and maintenance of released assigned components · Deployment and configuration documentation of completed products Requirements People Management: Primarily functions in a collaborative role with the development team, product management, quality assurance and project management for a platform or a component of a platform.
Project Management: Actively contributes to the project planning and scheduling of software initiatives by providing both tasks with dependencies and, upon sufficient clarification, estimates to the appropriate project managers.
Additionally, when assigned support tasks, provides estimates and impact analysis for consideration by triage managers in assigning defects and enhancements for further work.
