Director
Job Description: The position will be responsible for producing monthly financial statements and data that will be provided to DFS for roll up to Morgan Stanley financials.
SKILLS Required
1. Compile accurate and timely monthly and interim financial reports, ensuring that the reports accurately reflect the business and its key transactions and that transactions are recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
Information in these reports will be consolidated into Morgan Stanley's annual and quarterly SEC filings.
Coordinate with Director of Financial Controls and Discover finance personnel to ensure that accounting policy is aligned with parent company and financial reporting is produced in accordance with company policy.
Manage the planning and direction of company financial reporting and analysis activities such as budget variance, general ledger analysis, and cash management.
Direct accounting staff in functions such as account reconciliations, cash management, accounts payable, fixed assets and special projects.
Provide strong hands-on leadership to the team with a fous on solid process and procedures.
Promote communication and best practices among the accounting team.
2. Work with senior level management to ensure strong interdepartmental communication so that all transactional data is shared with accounting and accurately reflected in the financial statements.
Work with financial analysis team, billing team, and forecasting team to share information and ensure that entire finance team is well informed and coordinated in effort.
3. Oversee accounting department Sarbanes Oxley related activities including controls surrounding the financial reporting process.
Ensure that all key financial accounting and reporting processes are adequately documented and updated.
4. Develop recommendations for improving efficiency through automation of routine functions.
5. Participate in quarterly forecasting process as needed.
6. Stay abreast of relevant accounting topics and industry happenings.
7. Lead/Assist in special projects as needed.
The position is high level in responsibility but requires a very involved and hands-on approach.
It is critical that this position provide leadership for the accounting team and be knowledgeable from an accounting technical perspective.
It is also important that the individual in this position understand the current business climate and the associated requirements on the accounting staff of public companies.
Position will interface on a regular basis with Senior and Mid-level management and staff.
Must be able to direct staff, work well with peers in finance and foster cooperation cross departmentally.
Must also be able to articulate analysis of accounting treatment and accounting results in a clear logical manner.
Desired: A minimum of 8 plus years experience required with a Master's degree preferred.
